I remember my first professional Picture Day like it was yesterday. It was the fall of 1984 in Dallas, TX, and the excitement was contagious. This wasn’t just any photo; it was my first professional school picture, and to my young self, it felt like a milestone.

The photographer, a tall man with a kind smile, had his Nikon camera ready to capture memories. Meanwhile, I was busy picking the perfect outfit from my closet—one that represented who I was at that moment. After passing over my pink jacket and favorite blouse, I finally chose what I felt was the best fit: a paint-splattered bathing suit (see picture below). Perfect, right?

A Bold Outfit Choice and My Parents’ Reaction

I proudly showed off my outfit choice to my parents. My mom was stunned: “Is that what you’re wearing?” she asked. But my confidence was unwavering. The photographer—my dad—laughed and encouraged me to strike a pose.

Dad, a professional photographer, knew the importance of creating a comfortable environment. He adjusted my bows and guided me patiently, ensuring I felt relaxed in front of the camera. Even when my mom suggested a more “appropriate” outfit, the fun spirit of Picture Day continued. Dad coached me through poses, and made sure my smile was just right, just as we do today with every student at Logan’s Photography.
